Company history
In 2003, Succession Development Corporation (SDC Group) was born of the fruits of Jeffrey Baum’s extensive roots in the field of accessibility, design and construction, where he was recognized by his peers as the founder of the one-stop philosophy of providing healthcare solutions for individuals in private homes and the workplace. This expertise, combined with Steven Cohen’s extensive experience in the condominium development and construction market while employed with both Altus Group Cost Consulting (formerly Helyar & Associates) and the Daniels Corporation, made for the perfect leadership combination.
While initially focused only on the construction side of the business, the principals quickly got involved in the development, handover, and operations of their projects, working side by side with operations teams to ensure all needs were met. Today, SDC Group continues to expand their portfolio of more than 45 completed projects, with many more to come. Through transparency, collaboration, and trustworthiness, SDC Group strives to be a leader in the field of Construction Management while working on projects of varying complexity in the residential and seniors assisted living sectors.
Executive Team
Jeffrey Baum
has over 35 years of experience working in the field of Seniors Housing. With Jeffrey’s particular competence, various retirement home owners and operators have called upon him to assist in better understanding the needs of seniors and ageing in place. This has allowed SDC Group to expand its business and be involved in a number of extraordinary retirement home opportunities.
Steven Cohen
is a qualified professional Quantity Surveyor who commenced his career in 1994 with Altus Group as a senior estimator/cost consultant. He joined the Daniels Corporation in 1997 and was intricately involved with numerous residential condominium projects and seniors housing developments. Since joining SDC Group in 2004, Steven has lead all business and operational aspects of the firms Construction Management model.
Sean Donovan
Prior to joining SDC Group, Sean spent the majority of his 25-year career (18 years) with PCL Construction in Toronto. This was followed by a 2-year period with Edenshaw Developments, a boutique mid-rise residential developer based in Mississauga, and 5 years with Clark Construction Management. Since 2009, his career has been focused on mid and high-rise residential developments, totalling over $700M at PCL and close to $1 billion at CCM.
